Customise your SMS sender name (alphanumeric sender ID)

What it does

By default, your SMS (sequences and campaigns) are sent from your phone number. Instead, you can show a sender name — for example "Madyis" — so the recipient instantly sees who's texting. This is called an alphanumeric sender ID (or "alpha sender").

How to enable it

  1. Go to Inboxes & channels, then open your SMS (Twilio) inbox.
  2. Open the Configuration tab.
  3. In the "SMS sender name (alphanumeric sender ID)" field, enter your name: 1 to 11 characters, letters and digits, at least one letter (e.g. Madyis).
  4. Click Save.

From then on, your sequence and campaign SMS show that name. Leave the field empty to go back to sending from your number.

Important to know

  • One-way only: recipients cannot reply to a sender name. So auto-stop when the lead replies and "STOP" opt-out do not work for these messages. Your conversation replies still go from your number, staying two-way.
  • It does not change calls: a call always shows a number, never a name. The sender name applies to SMS only.
  • Country-dependent: supported in many countries (France, Spain, Belgium…), but not in the US or Canada.
  • Registration required in some countries: Spain and France (among others) require the name to be pre-registered with the carriers, through your SMS provider. Until that's done, SMS to those countries may be blocked or the name replaced. Check the rules for your destination before relying on it.

Tip

For a real two-way relationship (the lead can reply and opt-out works), a dedicated local number is often more effective than a sender name. You can also simply write in the SMS "It's Madyis, we'll call you back in 5 min": the lead knows who's texting, with no restrictions.
